Praetorian helmet with the Scorpion emblazoned – Brass

the classic Praetorian helmet with the Scorpion emblazoned on the cheek pieces and images 3 and 4 are two of the nine iterations of Gallic Helmets discovered to date. Image three is interesting as 2000 years ago that incredible shine could have been made via the mercury heating method. This involved mixing mercury with silver or gold, coating the metal surface, let it dry, then reheat it which caused the lethaly toxic mercury to melt away from the metal leaving a perfectly silver or gold plated helmet.
