Medieval Padded Gambeson: White & Royal Blue Cotton Renfaire Costume
This style of medieval gambeson has tie closures in front with reinforced eyelets. Removable sleeves the gambeson has plenty of (points) to attach various parts of plate armor. Crafted in heavy-duty padded canvas, it has excellent blow-absorbing properties when worn separately and provides superior protection from cuts when worn under chainmail or plate armor. This item arrived much sooner than expected for shipping from India. I happened to get this and a similar gambeson off Amazon around the same time (as a backup), both in Medium, and it seems they are customized to your measurements mainly via the placement of the straps and buckles. An Amazon review mentioned that the straps would need to be replaced as they are thin PU leather, and that is true of this gambeson as well. The straps are quite thin and I plan on replacing them this weekend (fairly easy to do – you can look up leather working tutorials on YouTube for how to do it),
Otherwise, I’m thrilled with this item! The fit and look are great and it breaths surprisingly well. I don’t think I’d want to wear it to an event over 75 degrees, but for Fall and Winter events, it seems excellent. I’m very excited for my next event!
