Loose Scales – Brass For Lorica Squamata Armor

This pack of 25 armor scales are ready to be made into your own custom scale armor. Each scale is made from 26 gauge Brass and are pre-perforated to allow you to tie or rivet them onto your own padded cloth or leather backing and form. Smaller holes allow for armor scales to be sewn together at their base as well.

Scale armor is comprised from overlapping plates of Brass which are sewn, laced or riveted onto a backing. A relatively ancient form of armor it continued to see use well into the middle ages. Well-crafted scale mail was an impressive segmented plate defense and made its wearer largely impervious to cuts. With a solid padded backing, scale armor also provided notable protection from concussive impacts by dissipating and spreading the force of a blow over several scales.
